Reviews:
An alternative FROM THE VAULT series, with live recordings chosen by the DeaD’s official archive keeper: DICK LATVALA. This first one is an excellent 2-track soundboard master from the Dead’s final show of 1973, on December 19, at Curtis Hixon Convention Center in Tampa, Florida.
Nr.1 Recorded on two-track in December, 1973, DICK’S PICKS raids the tape locker to liberate the DeaD in their Garcia/Godchaux/Godchaux/Lesh/Weir in- carnation. Structured to move from songs into jams, it captures them in full flight. HE’S GONE is stiletto-through-the-heart vituperation, PLAYING IN THE BAND and THE JAMS extemporising heaven, AROUND AND AROUND disposable fun. As accurate an exposition of the Dead’s core experience as you could wish for. KEN HUNT, MOJO, nr. 7, June, 1994
