This book originally came with an acetate of Neal Cassidy speaking at the opening of the Straight Theater, with the GRATEFUL DEAD playing in the background. That soundsheet is missing !
This book is one of the earliest looks at the Grateful Dead and the beginning scene in S.F. There’s quite a few b&w photos and graphics which add depth to the book, several showing members of the Dead in the early days. Probably the most interesting aspect of the book are the interviews and comments from band members like Phil Lesh and Jerry Garcia, and others, which are both valuable and interesting looks into the beginnings of that whole scene, and their approach to music. Remember, this book was written “then”, when the Dead had yet to travel very far down that not so simple highway. Books written years or decades later, in hindsight, whether they are better or not, will never give you the same vibe.
The book has been read, but in good condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting but faded very lightly. Will be a good reading copy. The front cover has let loose! No soundsheet. (See pictures, they are of the actual object).
