great music and great amount of it. first of all, it should be convenient to say this box has not the complete works of but surely the greatest part of it. (i remember for example “perambulator” lp which is not included here, and there are a few more). in second place: the sound. sound itself is optimal, a great work of remastering, which gave the music a rebirth with polished details without losing its analog sound. Really beautiful sound.
third: the packaging. it’s fine but i would have expected a bit more. booklet is fine, good information and design. just if carboard sleeves were gatefold, it could had been possible having a more quantity of original artwork, including back sleeves of every record plus some credits when available: that could have given the collection a more complete appeal. (for example, you don’t have the complete tracklisting anywhere on the box, you have to read it “between the lines” on the 45 page booklet). last: tracklistings & album order. i found very nice the including of several bonus tracks on some cds. bonus tracks included obey to some criterion, is not an arbitrary inclusion. some original tracklisting was modified due to time restrictions (it happens mainly on last fela’s albums) but in all, every album is complete. i prefer this alteration than to have an incomplete album. what may be quite strange is the criterion used to put together two albums on one cd, not always having two consecutive releases or two contemporary ones. to sum up: if you like fela, this is a must have. music itself is reason enough, even more when we have a delicious sound definition.
